FILM FORMS

in ooperation with Anton Ginzburg

Film Forms is a collection of sculptural studies continuing the tradition of modernist formal experimentation rooted in concrete data. Two elastic curves evolve and form a dynamic ruled surface. The curves evolve according to mechanical principles and active driving generated by sentiment analysis and data mining from iconic film scripts, from “Birds” of Hitchcock to “Blue Velvet” by David Lynch and “Terminator” by James Cameron. The resulting surface is appropriately rendered. The installation was shown at A&I at TU Dresden in 2021 and was supported by Schauffler Lab. The numerical realization of the underlying elastic flow of inextensible curves was part of the student project of MaikPorrmann (TU Dresden) within the Master program Computational Modelling and Simulation.
